The readers and their insatiable desires

As e-writers, I and most others come across diverse characters in our e-readership: people with various their unique attributes that allows them display their various beautiful personalities.

There's something common to them all, and that is... their ability to sometimes stir unholy emotions in us (the writers) with their various comments.

An ongoing story (serial) most times is what everyone craves for, it provides enough time and opportunity to give characters depth and get us in their shoes to better understand why they are the way they are. When such story progresses with its many twists and turns it starts to get overwhelmingly captivating, most readers begin to rudely demand for more updates, forgetting the writer has a life outside his e-publishing forum.

If, and when the grace to persevere continues, and the story has been on for a long time, yet still captivating, and the ardent readers (followers of the story) have over used the shoes of the character(s), they tend to start displaying a kind of ownership and directorship over what a character should and shouldn't do, this brings about different sorts of harsh comments to the story-writer over what he/she should or shouldn't do to the characters they've brought to life.

If after little thought we finally decide to give in to the fans' demands and take the story towards the line they've envisioned in their fairytale dreams. That's when the real misery starts.

Because, humans are unsatisfiable, and most times unknowingly want to be bossed around. The moment you give in to their demands without being able to still take a stand of glory to usher in a new grace of twists with the story's direction, those same fans will chastise you for messing up their story and damage your ego.

So, be strong-willed as a writer, know what you want, and know how to get there story wise. As the reader, be smart, know what you want, and know how not to interfere; watch with an open mind and see how your favourite story unfolds.

Cheers!
