The chairman by default syndrome

Ever since I could remember, I've always been put in positions where people look up to me for my opinion in almost every matter.

Where I regularly hear this paraphrased question, "Talius, what do you think we should do?"

I choose to call this continuous scenario, 'the chairman by default syndrome', and I know there are other people out there who are suffering the same fate.

I know many will begin to wonder what the suffering is, being that such people suffering from the syndrome are termed 'smart' by everyone around.

But there you said it. Why would you automatically term me smart just because I speak fluently, because I'm articulate, or just because I sound intelligent. Is the world that far gone?

It is not fair.

It puts myself and others like me in dangerous and uneasy spots, were we tend to always want to live up to expectation because of the high standard set for us by others and because of this, more often than not, we do not live a free and spontaneous life like the ones who put us in such uneasy position, because of their watchful and judgemental eyes fixed on us.

I stand now to say, enough!

When it became clear to me that I was a member (a high ranking one at that) of this suffering club, I prayed to have it broken, to free myself from the jinx of living my life to satisfy other people's high opinion about me. Even though I'm still a member of this club, I consciously don't live my life for anybody. Life is too short to do that.

You too can do the same if you have identified you are plagued with this syndrome. One of the worst fate in this short existence is carrying out your daily activities to satisfy other people's expectation of you.

Nobody deserves to make you live your life in an uncomfortable pattern just to make you conform to their high expectations.

Break the jinx. Break the chairman by default syndrome today. You deserve to live a carefree and spontaneous life every once in a while too.
